Sax in the jungle

Any saxophone player will have those influences come through in their music in a very different way. I can listen to the same 10 sax players as someone else for my entire life, and we’ll both play completely differently. That’s the beauty of being a musician.

I’m an avid fan of house music, particularly Deep jazzy and soulful house in this regard. for those that listen to those types of songs the saxophone very quickly comes up. when I initially started this song I’d known I wanted something on the deep side. What I wasn’t sure about was what to blend the deep with. I was listening to Duke soul – Sax hulana park and the Sax just stood out to me along with that came a YouTube video of Casper Esau II’s Saxophone accompaniment to KO’s Supa Dopa which I have included down below.

My Approach to this track was to use the sax the same way Casper Esau II had done. with this in mind I needed to do two things.

The first thing I needed to do was to create a rough idea that had nothing to do with music you’d expect to hear a saxophone on. This is my Supa Dupa. which took the form of an upbeat trap song.
The second thing I needed to do was the obvious part and most challenging for me. I needed to add the saxophone.

I got on to my keyboard loaded up a sax VST, as I don’t play the sax. I quickly found myself not liking what I was playing as it felt unnatural. you could tell I was playing the sax through a keyboard. I decided to go out to the web and search for saxophone samples that were for sales and after about 15 minutes of sample surfing I decided on one from the Samplestar – Jazz Hop Jamz Kit

Please Enjoy and if you like the song Please purchase it or add it to your playlist

Check out this Saxophone accompaniment to KO’s Sup Dopa. I heard this while back going through videos on the internet that could spark an idea for a new song/sound. what this video did was to remind me of just how much you can change the energy and mode of a song with a single instrument, the right notes and rhythm.
